Park Manager's Message

This morning as I walked through the park it was still and quiet - The Grove was still asleep and the Bay lapped quietly at the shore. Hardly a breath of air stirred as The Barnacle sat quietly on her perch at the top of the hill, looking but saying nothing. A clear, quiet cool spring morning at The Barnacle - close to perfect!

The Boathouse is again open for tours, now that Egret has been repaired from her run-in with a lightning strike last year. Since last May, the Boathouse served as a workshop, complete with a sawdust-strewn floor as Charlie Easton brought Egret back to health. The Boathouse now sports a new inhabitant. Gary Milano's Anteres which had been housed there is now at the South Florida Historical Museum while Wyannie Malone sits inside to be admired by tour visitors. Donated to The Barnacle Society by Edgar Cato, Bahamian dinghies Wyannie Malone and Smithsonian sail each year in Washington's Birthday Regatta.

The Barnacle, Carriage House and Boathouse have undergone historic preservation treatments and repairs in the past few months while we wait patiently as the ADA Barrier Removal Project wends its way through permitting. The entrance pavilion pavers and sidewalk beside The Barnacle await repairs this project brings, making the park truly accessible to all.

So, there you have it, the latest at YOUR state park.
