Following the footsteps of Commodore Ralph Middleton Munroe, yacht designer, Coconut Grove pioneer, and founder of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club.

The Washington’s Birthday Regatta originated at Munroe’s boathouse in 1887. The upcoming race will be the 30th Annual Sailing of this commemorative regatta.

This fun race is open to all vessels of traditional design and rig regardless of construction: Mud Hens, Sea Pearls,  Bullseyes, Sharpies, Bahama Dinghies, Cat Boats, Sloops, Gaff-Rigs etc. Fiberglass boats are permitted. In the spirit of the Commodore’s “shoal-draft” designs, only boats with a draft of 4 feet or less will be allowed entry to the Regatta. There will be a Mail Run Sail open to more modern, deeper draft sailboats.

The upcoming regatta will place on Saturday, February 21st, 2025 on Biscayne Bay just off shore of The Barnacle in Coconut Grove and is organized by The Barnacle Society, Inc. and The Barnacle Historic State Park. The trophy ceremony, and the traditional chowder party, will take place in the evening following the race.
